Another Weekend madness

Huehuehue… For those of you who may be calling me the whole saturday afternoon and didn’t get through til kinda late, im so sorry for the inconvenience. I was stuck, literally, in the forest! huehhueheue <— the laughter looks like html coding… anyway tts random

K, so me and Lynn (again) helped out with our senior’s grad film, and this time around, it’s Jason Riley’s. Lemme tell you why I look up to him that much:

  • 1. he’s my direct senior from my polytechnic in Singapore (graduated in the year of 2002 i think, while me 2007)
  • 2. his grad film was apparently so good that it is still used as one of the editing exercises
  • 3. his grad film amazes me the first time i saw it accidentally while browsing files in the audio room (even until now..)
  • 4. his grad film inspired me to do an music video (which i did)

and yes, so he’s into mixed media, compositing and video and film (me too) and he has good script. Interesting stuffs i guess… anyway here’s the pics.

We shot the alley scenes on the first day, it was fun (though i was just a logger hahaha, and well, maybe AD as well….)

The second day, we shot in the forest near Jericho park, it was crazy. We got caught by the park ranger, made to call their HQ and stuffs, losing daylight, mud mud and more mud, soft woods, pointed barks and branches on the ground, no loo, getting lost every now anda then, losing cell phones signals, heli noise, shouting kids, plane noise.. seriously, whoever that said forest is the most quiet place, they suck. hahahaha but it was beautiful. shall post some photos soon.

The third day we shot at the Jericho park, where the ‘million dollar’ shot were taken. whohoho…

(i think my previous school kids are pretty much obssessed with having the shot. hahaha. THE shot.)

oh yes, tell me what did you guys did in the weekend.. hehehe we can exchange our life infos and make life a lil bit more interesting by listening to others. lalalalala

Kath, writing a review on Kate

Last week was an amazing, and yes, we (namely Lynn, Nihal and me) had Kate Pullinger for the talk. We were in the south building of ECIAD for an hour but I believe it felt looooonger than ever, haha. So here it is, the long-awaited review (phew~) about Kate Pullinger:

(nb: I love her silverfish white, curly hair)

kate_pullinger_203x152.jpg

Kate Pullinger is a British Columbia-born, England-based contemporary writer. Although most of her works are using paper-based medium, she did a few collaborative interactive web-based media works as well. Her recent on-going project, Inanimate Alice, is to be launched as downloadable episodes on mobile phones in UK.

Kate attempted her first collaborative interactive fiction in 2004 titled The Breathing Wall. It was done in Macromedia Flash and it incorporated audio and visuals (of images and texts) to tell the story.

Kate’s practices of art intrigues me as she breaks free from the stereotypical media designated for literature. Her collaborations with other digital artists resulted in higher connectivity with her viewers, where readers are interacting visually and audibly. Digital interaction creates environment for viewers as these interactions give a more wholesome stimulation for the viewers’ brain to experience the work of art.

Her latest project, Inanimate Alice, incorporated video-installation style, with fast, inter-cutting graphics and unique engineered music piece. Inanimate Alice will be a 10-episodes interactive fiction, in which each episode tells a segment of Alice’s life at different age, in different locations (Alice’s parents travels all the time). According to Kate, Alice’s dream is to be an animator. This character concept brings about the feature of interactive animated technological gadget in each episode (e.g: PDA, gameboy, O2s, etc).

untitled-2.jpg

I am in favour of Inanimate Alice than all her other interactive previous works as concept and technicality wise, it is more well-developed and neat. It has faster beats than ‘the breathing wall’ and the storyline is more engaging. I can’t believe that I am actually anticipating the upcoming episodes of Alice as I normally don’t enjoy stuffs like that. The pilot episode of this interactive fiction itself is enough to convince me that this is waaaaaay different from Kate’s previous works in the new media.

Another factor which I like from Kate Pullinger —she is thoughtful about the financial problems in the web-based interactive media community. Not many digital artists earn from their project (as most would keep those as non-profit, side projects) but Kate generates income off-net out of Inanimate Alice. I am always compelled to the idea of generating income from digital art, because I believe that every artist have to realize that they do art not only to satisfy their artistic need, but also to serve the community as a form of artistic therapy.

Currently, Kate is working on Flight Paths, a research writing project of a networked novel (written by a few novelists). It is done in the modded blog softwares (which means, something that works like wordpress but waaaaay moreee advanced (and maybe, have the ability to change our own css stylesheet! =p) Hmm.. interesting.

(aaaah.. super sleepy. goodnite everyone)

Last weeekend i (and Lynn) were ‘hiding’ in my senior’s house to help one of them shoot their grad film.My senior’s house has such a suuper beautiful, interesting interior decor <— its a wonder since the house owners are guys. Anyway, thats pretty much the whole crew (lynn wasnt in the picture as she was sending her aunt off to the airport). I think its super convenient to wake up and walk out from the room, and start shooting within less than an hour. wohohohoo…

Introduction to randomness: Hard Gay

*ricky martin’s ’she bangs’ tune’s intro*
*Doooooomoooooooooooooooooo… Hardo gay desuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!*

Hmmm… I know the this sounds wrong but I was once addicted to this character called Hard Gay. Yet, another comical character from Japanese television, and yeah, japan this country has sooo many things to offer okay..! Banzai~

Hard Gay was a tv personality, acted out by Razor Ramon (real name: Masaki Sumitami). He was a wrestler by profession and well. read up on him in wikipedia i guess. Thats all i can say.

Catch all of Hard Gay’s episodes on youtube. Just type ‘bakafish’ on search<- yep, that’s the name of the translation group that subbed the whole episodes for internet consumers.

Here’s one example of a music video that was done.. with, of course, ecchi feel and comical lyrics.

sidenote: i read up somewhere that hard gay created controversials within the homosexual communities as some were apparently felt insulted and stuffs like that. Hmmm.. i dunno. to me, he’s just another random entertaining character with exaggerated persona. and i love Razor Ramon. Hooooooooooooooooooooo~~~!!!

ah, and when he got negative comment from people whom he was interacting with, his trademark phrase would be, “say say say say!~” and yeah. i used them once in a while. hahaha *blushed*

New Feature: Tagboard

I was sooo sooo sooo tempted to put in a tagboard at the sidebar, so i created the tagboard

account a few days ago, and to my dismay, we have to pay to change the CSS Style

(CSS style is the html or java coding for the whole blog to function)

and so….. putting it onto a page itself doesnt seem to work.

so yeah. i link it to tagboard page, and you guys can try them out.

just leave anythin, a message, random comments or rants or just.. whatever. hahaha

enjoy~

Get High by~Kath

The final vinyl that I had for my DIVA assignment. And the most interesting pose you would see with that kind of poses on the vinyl

Get High

Footnote:

Thank you so much to:

- Maki & Yota (who helped me to put them up). Maki for consolling me & Yota for really putting up hardwork brushing Mari Man down to the d*mn floor.
- Carly, Lauren, Antony, Gab and whoever that passed by and say hi (you guys cheered  me up at that point of time. Thanks~)
- and Carlos, for ‘printing’ them out (he would kill me if i say that, cos the correct term would be ‘cutting!’ vinyl)

Vinyl Grading, and the world still goes round as usual…

as the title suggest… anyway will be posting the stuffs much later (maybe tmr..). What a long day today, but i love the ‘excursion’. Hohoho. Call me lame, but at times like just now, its a great thing to exchange phone numbers at the start of every new class. You wont know how useful it is (and nobody will be free enough to prank call you, trust me. haha)

Anyway…..
